Food intolerance and malnutrition
Food intolerance Can occur in all genders and ages, and are hard to identify. The only remedy is to avoid food items that cause symptoms of food intolerance. Many studies have found that people with latent food allergies will increase the risk of malnutrition as they are afraid of being hurt or getting negative impact from the food they are intolerant to.
โดย MalnutritionMalnutrition is caused by insufficient nutritional intake in the body. Due to the insufficient intake, people who suffer from malnutrition lack macronutrients (protein, carbohydrate and fats) as well as micronutrients (vitamin and mineral) which can result in symptoms that indicate nutrient deficiencies such as, underweight, emaciation, muscle atrophy, osteoporosis, etc.
People with food intolerances normally try to avoid eating food items that will cause uncomfortable symptoms such as constipation, flatulence, abdominal pain, diarrhea, nasal congestion, acne, body swelling, etc. For example People with food intolerances to milk will try to avoid milk as it can cause bloating, stomach pain or diarrhea. This however could result in nutrient deficiencies such as calcium, vitamin D, and proteins. Therefore, in terms of nutrition, it is necessary to provide alternative foods that can replace those food items and missing nutrients. Examples for a substitution of milk is lactose free milk, almond milk, oat milk, rice milk, soy milk, fortified with calcium and vitamin D to prevent malnutrition.
The examination of food intolerances is therefore one way that allows us to know which food items cause negative impacts to the body and should be avoided. From there we can understand which foods or nutrients need to be supplemented In order to stay healthy and keep macro- and micro- nutritional levels high.
